Who is Anikara?
Hi! My name is Bridgette Wilkerson. I first fell in love with sculpting during a ceramics class in high school.
I graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in Marketing. Business students at the time were not allowed to take art courses. So in order to encourage myself and others to continue to create, I founded the “Black Aesthetic,” an organization for minorities on campus to create, connect, and educate each other about the visual arts.
There, I found a sense of joy creating community spaces for people to creatively express themselves.
Now, I use my marketing skills to inspire creativity in others— I founded Creatia llc to build community through art. We organize creative events and rental spaces.
Anikara’s Art
My art creations were just a personal hobby until a tweet of the “For You” hand vase went viral, inspiring me to focus on developing as an artist. That sculpture was then selected for an exhibition at the African American Arts & Cultural Complex in San Francisco. Since then I’ve held a ceramic residency at Clayroom SF, and have been in included in several exhibitions on the West Coast.
My work, like the process of making it, is a peaceful, natural, and spiritual experience.
