Who is Anikara?

Hi! My name is Bridgette Wilkerson. A New Jersey resident and native that grew her art practice in San Francisco for 5 years. A creative at heart, I fell in love with sculpture during a High School Ceramics class.

I studied Marketing at Rutgers University where business students were not allowed to take art classes. To encourage myself and others to continue to create, I founded the “Black Aesthetic” an organization for minorities on campus to create, connect, and educate each other about the visual arts.

There I found passion and joy creating community spaces for diverse populations to creatively express themselves.

Now I use my marketing skills to inspire creativity in others— I founded Creatia to build community through art by organizing creative events and rental spaces.

Anikara’s Art

My art creations were personal until a tweet of the “For You” hand vase went viral, inspiring me to focus on developing as an artist. That sculpture was then selected for an exhibition at the African American Arts & Cultural Complex in San Francisco. Since then I’ve held a ceramic residency at Clayroom SF and have been in included in several exhibitions on the West Coast.

“My work, like the process of making it, is a peaceful, natural, and spiritual experience.”
